A team of MMS seventh and eighth grade coders recently scored a hard-earned second place award at the Junior Division of the KidOYO Interdistrict Hackathon.

The “Mineola Masters” used teamwork, tenacity, creative logic and coding aptitude as they attempted a code-driven conquest across a virtual Oregon Trail, competing against schools from across Long Island.

Judges score teams based on criteria including creativity, most detailed and best game play and all projects are highlighted on a game map. The teams compete against each other by “attacking” other projects and taking over map territory. The teams who hold the most territories (have the most points) at the end of the competition win.

#MineolaProud of our amazing "Mineola Masters":

Team Captain Grant Adell (8th grade)
Jaden Hsiu (8th grade)
Joseph Meehan (8th grade)
Charlotte Ruyle (7th grade)
Rachel Fogarty (8th grade)
Zalen Parekh (8th grade)
Alexander Monsalve Rodriguez (7th grade)
Kimberly Sandoval (8th grade)

Special thank you to team advisors Mrs. Santos and Dr. McGlade-McCulloh for guiding these learners on an amazing coding adventure!
