Two Mineola schools were selected to receive grants as part of Jovia Financial Credit Union’s “Funding Your Ideas” Teacher Grant Program. Each school received $500 to help fund specific programs that were submitted with the applications.

At Mineola Middle School, art teacher Ms. Andrea Antonelli used her grant to purchase equipment and supplies for the school’s makerspace, including a Cricut Explore Air for creating 2D and 3D paper crafts and a Makedo cardboard construction kit with tools to cut, score and build with cardboard. “These additions to the art room will give learners the opportunity to develop sculpture techniques while encouraging design thinking and exploration and offering a calming activity using their creativity and imagination,” said Ms. Antonelli about her newly acquired items.

Jackson Avenue School art teacher Ms. Jeanine Gallina and STEAM teacher Ms. Christina Sotsky used their Jovia grant to purchase a Nurtaponics Hydroponic Garden Tower Growing System, part of a collaborative project to enhance their outside garden classroom. The teachers are looking forward to launching this project which will allow learners to develop an understanding about plant growth and produce plants that will be incorporated into environmental art and designs.
