Schools Closed For the Remainder of the School Year
May 1, 2020
Today, Governor Cuomo announced all schools will remain closed for the remainder of the academic year. While we are heartbroken that we will not have the opportunity to see our students again this year, we understand the Governor’s decision to place health and safety first. Even though our buildings are closed, we will continue to support our students and families for as long as necessary.
While this decision has an impact on all of our students, we know that closing schools truly affects our Seniors. Our administrators are planning how to try and deliver the important events that we hold at the end of the year for our Senior class. We will provide more information about these events in the coming weeks. We remain committed to providing these events in whatever format complies with current social distancing guidelines and allows for a true celebration of the accomplishment of our Seniors.
The Governor stated today that a decision on Summer School Programs will be made at the end of May. It is our intent to provide all of the robust summer programs we typically do while following all of the recommended social distancing guidelines.
Mineola will continue to distribute meals to any families Monday through Friday at any of our schools between the hours of 10 AM and 12 PM.
School Budget Vote
Our regular budget vote scheduled for May 19th will not take place as scheduled. We are currently awaiting more information from New York State about the date and format for this year’s budget vote.
On a personal note, I am devastated that we will not have the opportunity to re-open schools this academic year but I know that our community will be bound by mutual support and dedication to our students and families. I look forward to seeing many examples of why I am always #MineolaProud.
