Abbey Ahamed, 2019 graduate of Mineola High School and freshman at St. John’s University, along with her brother Abraham, a current sophomore at Mineola High School, are focused on helping our healthcare workers during this unprecedented time. Their mom, Yvette is a Nurse Manager, on the front lines at NYU Winthrop Hospital and she described to them the mental health issues healthcare workers face as well as skin breakdown from continuous hand washing and mask use. As a result, together they are creating care packages for healthcare workers that will include hand lotion, lip balm, scented candles, adult coloring books and more.
Abbey and Abraham said, “In a time when many businesses and organizations have focused on feeding our healthcare workers, we wanted another way to help acknowledge the dedication of these heroes.”
"We are #MineolaProud of the way our students always step up and seek ways to help the community that they live in. Abbey and Abraham are shining examples of the tight knit, caring, and compassionate community that we have here,” Mineola High School Principal Whittney Smith, Ed.D. said of the pair.
