On Feb. 11, Nassau County held their Individual Bowling Championships for the remaining All- County bowlers whose teams didn’t advance to the state Tournament. Mineola’s senior Billy Grotheer who finished his year with a 205 average had to finish in the top 6th to qualify for the trip upstate.

After the 1st 3 games Billy was in 8th place chasing the 6th place person by 35 pins. Billy rolled a 202 to jump him to 7th place and only 25 pins away. The 5th game wasn’t as kind and he dropped again to 8th place but this time he was down 58 pins. Billy got on track when he truly needed it as he spared in the 1st frame and then proceeded to throw 6 strikes in a row, followed by a spare, strike, spare and on his final throw of the day he threw a strike to close with a 253 the Tournaments high score of the day. Billy earned himself a 5th place finish and spot on the Nassau County team for the 2nd year in a row.

Billy is looking forward to the State Championship held in Syracuse on the weekend of March 10th, 11th and 12th.
