On Feb. 4th, the Girls’ Varsity Bowling Team won its second County Championship in a row (1st time in 55 years an A division team has done so at Mineola). Congratulations to seniors Jackie Lewis, Leana Coelho, juniors Michaela Palumbo, Kelsey Morrison, Emma Foley, Brianna DiVirgillio and sophomores Kate Flynn and Allison Gayson.

This year the Mustangs defeated MacArthur 4778 to 4690 total pinfall. This tournament was quite different than last year when the Mustangs won wire to wire defeating the 2nd place team by over 400 pins. MacArthur proved to be a worthy opponent as the final difference was only 88 pins. The Generals cut the difference to only 6 pins after the 4th game, the Mustangs showed their resolve as Emma rolled a 183, Jackie and Kelsey both rolled a 158. This gave the Mustangs a 79-pin cushion and then in the final game Brianna rolled a career high 173, while Michaela chipped in with a 179 to help lead the Mustangs to victory. Kate got the Mustangs off to a hot start by rolling a 177 in the first game.

Jackie had the High Series for the Tournament (1023). The Mustangs entered the Tournament undefeated going 12-0 in the regular season. In fact, they had not lost a single game. Michaela and Kelsey were great all season earning All-County honors. While Jackie and Emma earned All- Conference. This Championship was a total team effort as four of the ladies bowled better than their average for the year.

The team is looking forward to the State Championship held in Syracuse on the weekend of March 10th, 11th and 12th.
