Future Teachers Gain Real-World Classroom Experience at Meadow Drive

Thirteen Mineola High School seniors are turning their passion for education into practice through the Future Teachers Program, gaining valuable hands-on experience in classrooms at Meadow Drive School.
The students recently began their internships, working alongside Meadow Drive teachers and engaging with younger learners as they explore careers in education. Throughout the school year, the aspiring educators will assist with classroom activities, support student learning and observe instructional practices, providing them with a firsthand look at the teaching profession.
The Future Teachers Program is offered through a partnership between Mineola High School and Adelphi University. Participants have the opportunity to take college-level teaching courses while earning credits that can be applied after graduation. The combination of rigorous coursework and practical classroom experience helps students develop the skills, knowledge and confidence needed for future success in the field of education.
By working directly with K-2 elementary students, the seniors gain meaningful insight into the responsibilities and rewards of teaching while serving as positive role models for younger learners. The experience also allows them to build professional relationships with educators and learn from experienced mentors in an authentic school setting.
The Future Teachers Program reflects Mineola's commitment to providing students with real-world learning opportunities that connect academic studies with potential career pathways. Through their work at Meadow Drive, these students are not only exploring a future in education but also making a positive impact in classrooms today.
