Mineola High School Learner Recognized with Shield Award

The district is #MineolaProud to congratulate junior Lowry Liu on being named a recipient of the Nassau County District Attorney’s Shield Award. The honor recognizes high school juniors across Nassau County who demonstrate exceptional strength of character, integrity and an unwavering commitment to selfless community service.
Lowry was selected for the award based on the enthusiastic recommendation of school counselor Ms. Turner, who highlighted his outstanding moral leadership, altruism and positive influence on the school culture.
The official citation from the District Attorney’s Office commends Liu, noting that the award serves "as a reminder to all those for whom it presents that the most righteous and powerful impacts are made by those who exemplify altruism, ethics and moral leadership, and that one's character, achievements and resolve will inspire great change in this world."
"Lowry is the kind of student who completely transforms a room just by walking into it," said Ms. Turner. "He doesn’t seek out recognition or look for the spotlight; instead, he focuses his energy on lifting up those around him. Whether he is mentoring a peer, volunteering his time or simply standing up for what is right, Lowry’s integrity is unshakeable. He truly embodies the spirit of selflessness that the Shield Award represents."
The Shield Award is an annual initiative by Nassau County District Attorney Annie Donnelly to celebrate young people who are making meaningful, tangible impacts in their communities through ethical leadership and service, proving that individual character can be a powerful catalyst for change.
