Local Historian Brings Mineola’s Story to Life for Meadow Drive Learners

Second graders at Meadow Drive recently stepped back in time during a special visit from Margaret Ann Farmer, a historian, retired librarian, former teacher, author and lifelong Mineola resident.
Ms. Farmer shared fascinating stories and fun facts about Mineola’s history, helping students learn more about the community they call home. Her presentation sparked curiosity and inspired thoughtful questions as learners explored how the town has grown and changed over the years.
Learners also enjoyed a hands-on look at the past through a collection of photographs, memorabilia, antiques and classic toys that Ms. Farmer brought to share. Learners had the opportunity to examine historic items up close, make connections between past and present, and even hold and play with some of the toys, bringing history to life in a memorable and engaging way.
The visit provided students with a unique opportunity to connect classroom learning to their local community and gain a deeper appreciation for Mineola’s rich heritage. Through stories, artifacts and historical insights, Ms. Farmer helped inspire the next generation of Mineola historians.
The district thanks Ms. Farmer for sharing her time, knowledge and passion for local history with our students.
