Mineola Brings Strings Together for High School and Elementary School Musical Collaboration

Mineola High School’s eighth grade orchestra students recently visited Jackson Avenue School for a special cross‑school musical collaboration. The older students brought their violins, cellos and double basses to rehearse alongside members of the fourth grade Orchestra Club.
During the visit, each high school musician was paired with a younger player for a rehearsal session. The eighth graders guided their elementary partners through bow hold, posture, finger placement and tone—offering helpful tips and encouragement as the fourth graders prepared for an upcoming performance.
The event culminated in a lively gymnasium performance in front of an enthusiastic audience of third graders, teachers and administrators. Together, the combined orchestra showcased their hard work and the power of music to connect students across grade levels.
This collaboration highlighted Mineola’s strong commitment to music education and mentoring, giving young musicians an inspiring glimpse of what awaits them as they continue their musical journey.
