Mineola UPK Program Gives Young Learners a Strong Start

Mineola’s youngest learners are building strong foundations for future success through the district’s Universal Pre-Kindergarten program. Facilitated by Harbor Child Care and offered at Willis Avenue School, Meadow Drive School and Hampton Street School, the free, state-funded program provides children with a full-day learning experience designed to support academic, social and emotional growth.
Led by certified teachers who follow the Mineola curriculum, the program helps prepare students for a smooth transition to kindergarten while fostering independence, confidence and a love of learning. Throughout the school day, children engage in hands-on activities that encourage curiosity, creativity and collaboration. From literacy and math readiness to social-emotional learning and play-based exploration, students develop the skills needed to thrive in school and beyond.
Through the district’s partnership with Harbor Child Care, UPK students receive a high-quality early childhood education while becoming familiar with school routines and expectations before entering kindergarten.
Families interested in enrolling their child in the program still have an opportunity to do so. UPK seats remain available at Willis Avenue School for the 2026-27 school year. Children who reside in the Mineola School District and will be 4 years old on or before Dec. 1, 2026, are eligible to apply. Parents and caregivers can learn more and begin the registration process by visiting the district website at mineola.k12.ny.us.
