On March 30, the halls of the Mineola District offices were filled with energy as Ms. Smith’s kindergartners from Meadow Drive arrived for a behind-the-scenes look at how their school district operates. The morning began at the Synergy building, where Interim Superintendent of Schools Catherine Fishman welcomed the students and shared a custom book created specifically for the class. This personalized guide introduced the children to the many staff members and leaders they would meet throughout their tour. Following the introduction, the students began their journey through the district offices, weaving through various departments to meet the team that supports their education. As they visited each office, the students learned about different roles and even had the opportunity to sit behind the desks to imagine what it would be like to work there one day. After completing their tour, the class enjoyed a snack break at the Synergy Cafe before gathering with Ms. Fishman for a journalism-style question and answer session. Acting as student reporters, the kindergartners interviewed Ms. Fishman on a wide range of topics—from her favorite desserts and music to her pets. The session concluded with a focus on the future, as students sought the Superintendent's advice on how to successfully prepare for their upcoming transition to first grade. The visit is part of the district’s ongoing commitment to student engagement, ensuring that learners of all ages have the opportunity to understand the collaborative efforts that support their schools. |
