The district is #MineolaProud to congratulate Hampton Street kindergarten teacher Nicole Valvo on being recognized with the Bright Lights Award by the Association of Suffolk Supervisors for Educational Technologies (ASSET). This award honors educators for their exemplary integration of technology into the educational environment.

In the classroom, Ms. Valvo is proving daily that 5-year-olds can have agency over their educational experience. Using the “Daily 5” method of independent learning and other classroom routines, her students experience personalized learning with iPads that fosters development of literacy, math and creative problem-solving skills.

As a teacher leader, Ms. Valvo collaborates with elementary school teachers from throughout the district to ensure that best practices are being shared and implemented for all Mineola learners.

The award was presented at the ASSET Bright Lights Luncheon on Jan. 17 at the Heritage Club in Bethpage.
