Amaris Melendez Named Principal of Hampton Street School

At the meeting on July 31, the Mineola Board of Education announced the appointment of Amaris Melendez to the position of principal of Hampton Street School. Ms. Melendez has been serving as an Instructional Leader since joining the district in 2024.
In her new role, Ms. Melendez brings exceptional skill, passion and a strong belief in inclusive education and the importance of fostering environments where every child feels seen, valued and supported. Her leadership philosophy is centered on collaboration, equity and a commitment to instructional excellence, strategic visioning and community-building.
“Early childhood education has been the heart of my work and expertise throughout my career, and I am thrilled to bring that passion to Hampton Street School,” Ms. Melendez said.“These formative years are filled with wonder, curiosity and incredible growth, and I look forward to partnering with our dedicated staff and families to create a joyful, nurturing environment where every young learner can thrive. It’s an honor to join the Hampton Street School family and continue building on the great work already happening here.”
Ms. Melendez holds a bachelor’s degree in early childhood education from Brooklyn College, a master’s degree in childhood education from Long Island University and a master’s degree in school leadership and supervision from College of Saint Rose.
