Fundraising/"Individual Account" Policies

At Mineola High School we offer our music students opportunities to participate in numerous time-tested fundraisers that are desirable and timely (i.e. cheesecakes delivered before Thanksgiving) In addition the fundraisers that we choose have excellent profit margins.  It is important to us that the funds raised by each student directly benefit the student who worked so hard to sell items.  To that end we have what we call “Individual Accounts” or, “IA.”  Here is some information on how they work.

Different fundraisers have different “margins.”  For example, if a student sells a Marching Band Journal Ad, 70% of that money goes directly into an account for that student.  This money can be used for music department activities throughout the students’ time at the high school.  Here is the step by step process:

  • Student solicits for journal ad, and a business takes a full page ad for $85.00
  • $59.50 goes directly into a student account which is kept track of by our music teachers or activity director.
  • This money can be used to pay for:  School District Instrument rental fee, Music Department Trips, Band Camp, Syracuse Marching Band Trip, Disney Trip, Chorus/Orchestra/Concert Band trips or events.
  • When payments become due for music department events, write your music teacher a note saying “I’d like to use x amount from my IA”  Teachers can also provide you with an IA balance at any time.

There are some restrictions for use of the IAs:

  • No money can be withdrawn as cash
  • Money must be used for music department sponsored events
  • Money not used when a senior graduates will remain in the ensemble account, and be used to reduce the total cost of trips for all students - OR - the money may be passed to a younger sibling.

Each fundraiser has different profit margins, and the details will be made clear when you get an information packet for each specific fundraiser.
