Meadow Drive Library Reading Hints

Five Finger Rule

When choosing a book that is right for you to read always make sure that you do the 5 finger test. Use the following steps:

  • Open the book to any page.
  • Select a full page of text.
  • Read the page (aloud if possible).
  • Put one finger up for every word you can not pronounce or do not know.

If you get five ( 5 ) fingers up on one page, the book is too difficult to read independently. If you do not get any fingers up, but are reading very slowly and having a hard time with almost every word, you will not enjoy the book.(Maybe you should choose another book)

Also after you read try to remember what the story was about. If you do not know, you should choose another book.
