“Grandma” Edith Kaulbach celebrated her 100th birthday by reading to students at Hampton Street School. As part of the celebration, each of the kindergarten classes wrote letters and created colorful cards, which they presented to Grandma as they all sang “Happy Birthday” in the school’s main lobby. “Grandma,” who was born on April 10, 1918, has lived in Mineola since 1949 and is the proud mother of three daughters who graduated from Mineola High School, one of whom, Angela Glassman, taught in the district before retiring in 2010. Grandma Edith has been volunteering at the school to read with students each week.
