Phys Ed Students of the Year

Congratulations to Matthew Tavernite and Tara Maloney as they were selected by the Mineola High School Physical Education department as the 2015-2016 Physical Education Students of the Year. Both Tara and Matt are outstanding student athletes and exceptional role models in the Mineola High School community. As members of the Physical Education leadership class Tara and Matt completed their training as Juniors and act as qualified and motivated leaders in physical education classes for 8th grade students at Mineola. In addition , both Tara and Matt are exceptional athletes at Mineola. Matt is a 3 season track team member who has acted as a team leader in his role as a team captain. Tara is a also a team captain and All-County Volleyball player. Tara helped lead her team to a very successful and exciting season which culminated in the County Semi-finals.

A Dinner to honor all of the award recipients in the County will took place on December 14th at the Crest Hollow Country Club . Tara and Matt were presented alongside many other outstanding physical education students from all over Nassau County as their work and accomplishments were celebrated. Certificates were presented by members of the New York State Association for Health , Physical Education, Recreation and Dance.
The members of the Mineola Physical Education department are proud to have Tara and Matt stand for our beliefs in the importance of lifetime fitness and health.
