Seven students from Mineola Middle School were honored at the district's Jan. 16 Board of Education meeting for participating in the YMCA Youth and Government Program in Albany, New York. During the experience, students toured the capitol and learned the importance of the American democratic system by participating in hands-on enactments of how to pass bills into laws and debating their own bills on the Senate floor.

Students attended with advisers Michael Chin and Jenna Cavuto. Attendees included: Dylan Boutin, now an eighth-grader who had been elected governor last year, George Faccio, Harrison Kearns, Chris Luce, Daniel Perrino, Neeharika Vattikuti and Maximilian Zawadzki. This year, Mineola again had a student voted in as governor. Chris Luce will receive a special gavel and play a role in next year’s ceremony.
